I am trying to make a system to monitor my place when I am away, to detect any intrusion. I tried using a USB webcam with motion detection (from the motion package), it works but in low light conditions, it fails to detect anything. Using internet search engines, I find a lot of video cameras with night vision, but they are not USB cameras controlled by the PC to which they are connected, they are standalone devices with a wifi or ethernet connection, and there is no documentation on what they exactly do, so I don't like this.

I saw some USB infrared cameras, with infrared LEDs to illuminate the space around, but customers feedback say that, when used continuously, they stop working after some time (like 30 minutes) possibly due to overheating.

Is anyone using infrared USB camera successfully to monitor some place at night? If so, I am interested to know which models you are using.

Hey Avron can I ask you a question?

Did you see my post and try disabling the default multi-colored rendering of text for your Trisquel?

It'd be nice if people could respond, and provide more info, like whether or not it worked for them, or with any unique ideas they had, that might be helpful to others.
